Monthly Letter #3 - Barbeque and Canada Day
Hi Everyone,
The training seminar on Saturday went very well. It was a small group, but it was a good group. We had a main session on the Biblical Basis for Evangelism and The Basics to a gospel presentation led by the evangelism co-ordinators (Katherine and Steve). We followed that by a short intermission in which we talked to the 7 people in attendance. Steve found out that everyone there was interested in doing all of the session that we had planned so it was decided instead of having 4 separate sessions that we would shorten all of them and have one large group of sessions.
Colleen and Johnson started by talking about street/random evangelism. They talked about the importance and guidelines for approaching people to engage in spiritual conversations and present the gospel. They concluded with a skit on a good approach and a bad approach to evangelism.

The second session was led by Ricky and I. We talked about how to share with Christians. We stressed the importance of making sure the person has a clear idea of what the gospel is and that some people have not received Christ as their saviour even though they say they are Christians. It was a bit difficult for me because my dad was in the audience and I mentioned how sometimes Catholics believe in God, but do not have a personal relationship with God. It's very hard to say that when you know there is a Catholic in the audience.
The third pair to speak were Olga and Grace on witnessing to needy people. They discussed how believers should seek to fill the needs of the people they meet, but most importantly we should seek to introduce them to Christ.
The final session was on those who resent the church. This was led by Myriam and Erin. They mentioned reasons why people may become jaded with the church and talked about how to approach these conversations with sensitivity.
We followed the training period with a BBQ so that those we taught could directly apply what they learned. We had a good number of people show up. It was a good time and an excellent outreach to the community. We even had a lady who lives across the street from the church come to see what was going on. We also invited a few people to come to the coffee house that we will be having tomorrow night. We hope to present the gospel and continue building friendships with the people we met on Saturday.

I've included some pictures from our Canada day celebration. If you'd like you can also watch a video of what we did to celebrate during the evening. It's just a couple minutes and you can see me in the background of the first scene.
In Christ,
Liz.
